Are you familiar with the Chihuahua breed?
Do you have experience with toy sized dogs?
Toy size dogs require a different environment than a larger dog. They can climb up onto things and injure themselves jumping down from those heights. They can get into and out of things much easier than larger dogs. They can sneak through fences outside. And... they are interesting little snacks for birds of prey... yes, hawks, eagles and owls can snatch up chihuahuas!
Why are you looking at YankeeBelle Chihuahuas?
There are many avenues available to you when looking for a pet. YankeeBelle Chihuahuas go to approved homes only. If your first interest is cost, a YankeeBelle Chihuahua is probably not for you. You can rescue dogs from the pound much cheaper. And keep in mind, the initial cost of a pet (any pet) is just the beginning of your commitment to keep puppy/dog up to date with vet visits, vaccines, and keeping it free of flea-tick-mosquito-heartworm and other worms, spay or neutering, keeping dogs licensed in your town. and finally providing a safe home where a companion dog will be physically and emotionally cared for. We will want to know a lot about you and the home you will provide for a puppy because our puppies go to approved homes only.
Are you ready for a puppy?
Oh, they are so cute and irresistible, how can you not be drawn to how adorable they are? A Chihuahua puppy is a dog, not a passing fad that is "in" this year to carry around in your purse, and to dump somewhere when they lose their puppy appeal. Chihuahuas can live 15-20 years, are you willing to commit to the lifetime of your puppy?
A Chihuahua puppy is FRAGILE. They need to be closely monitored until you are SURE that they are eating enough throughout the day to prevent low blood sugar attacks. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in a Chihuahua puppy can be FATAL. They can die from it. I cannot guarantee that a puppy will not develop hypoglycemia. When you leave here with a pup it is your responsibility to ensure than your puppy is eating enough to prevent this. If your puppy becomes lethargic (slowed down and not as responsive) treat for hypoglycemia or take it to a vet immediately. Low blood sugar can and will cause death if not treated quickly.
They can be injured if left on a couch or chair and jump or fall off.
They need to NEVER be alone with young children. A young child can provide too much stimulation for a puppy and can grab the pup and squeeze it too hard if it tries to get away from them. This can create physical injuries and behavior problems down the road for your puppy.

Are you considering an adult or older dog?
When our dogs are ready to retire from breeding, We let them go to homes where they can be spoiled and cared for, for the rest of their lives. We would keep them all if we could, but it's not physically possible. What is best for the dog is a home where they will get lots of love and attention... this process of re-homing is difficult for us and sometimes we keep dogs until "just the right people" want and need them. Let us know if you are interested.
Are you interested in a rescue Chihuahua?
From time to time folks will call and ask us to take a Chi and find it a good home. Sometimes it's a beautiful dog. Sometimes they come with physical and emotional challenges. I do what I can for them, then look for their "forever" home. Let me know if you are interested.
A frequently asked question:
Do Chihuahuas get along with other dogs (or cats)?.
We have sold Chi puppies that were injured and KILLED by larger dogs ~
But, yes, they can and they do get along with larger dogs (and cats) when introduced VERY carefully.
